Welcome to Royal Wootton Bassett

Royal Wootton Bassett is located just two miles from junction 16 of the M4, making it an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and discover its many visitor attractions.

The combination of the old and the new, the historic architectural gems, modern shopping centres and nearness to some of the country's greatest houses and historic villages, makes this town midway between Bath and Swindon an ideal location for living, working and visiting.

The Multi-million pound upgrade of Junction 16 now complete
As has been reported in the local media this week, the scheme to create extra capacity at Junction 16 is now fully operational. All of the traffic management has been removed and the right-hand turn from Royal Wootton Bassett towards Wroughton is now open. The traffic lights will be monitored over the next few weeks as the new intelligent MOVA system, which reacts to traffic, has been installed and some additional landscaping will be carried out. Please be aware that there may be some instances over the next few weeks of lanes being coned off for a short period to ensure the lights are working as effectively as possible.

Highways England Works
As part of a completely unrelated scheme to the work at Junction 16, Highways England will be working on the eastbound entry slip at Junction 16, from Monday 21st May until early July. This is part of a wider programme to improve the eastbound corridor of the M4. The work will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am and during this time Highways England expect to have three full closures of the eastbound entry slip road.
